Team 5 News February 1 – 7, 2010
Team 5 is very excited to be putting our lessons into action. Throughout an ongoing art lesson, we have been working on creating a floor plan design and turning it into a 3D depiction. Billie, who is our teacher, has been working with us and helping us redesign our class floor space. We will be seeing it come to life going from a floor plan into action on Friday, February 5th of this week. It will allow more space for the students work stations. Please come visit and check out the changes being made to Team 5!

This week, Team Three’s TAG students did a project to help Haiti. They decided to start a school fundraiser to collect money for donations. They were all dispersed into three different groups: education, collection, and history. The education group gave speeches and sent out informational e-mails about Haiti. The collection group thought of different ways to collect money. The history group was in charge of taking pictures, and writing a page on the BCA website. All groups worked diligently to spread the word, to make themselves heard and more importantly, to stimulate audiences to donate for the people in need in Haiti.

Team 1 News February 1 – 7, 2010
Hello to everyone! Team 1 has been busy this week. K-1 have been studying the planets and 1-2 will be discussing dust mites. We all made Valentine mice. Their bodies are made of hearts, they even have yarn tails with a heart at the ends! We are very tired of the cold temperatures that are keeping us inside and are looking forward to warmer weather. Recently we also learned about Groundhogs and wish that Punxatawny Phil didn’t bring us 6 more weeks of winter! We all learned about Pecos Bill, John Henry and Casey the Engineer in Social Studies. We’d like to let you know that on our Tuesday morning specials we have crafts and Spanish. Many of us are trying new things in them. We are looking forward to Valentine’s Day and would like to have a Valentine party in our classroom. 1-2 is spending this week on the Laura Numeroff book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin. They are really enjoying it. 1-2 also recently finished a unit on electricity, how it makes it to our houses and how to be safe. They learned a lot and hopefully will be extra safe because of their new knowledge. Happy first week in February!

BCA received a grant from the Council for Economic Education through funding from the United States Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement. The grant was for BCA to continue the financial literacy program we began 3 years ago. Team 3 has had our first “pay day” this week. It has been our experience that the younger students struggle with pay checks and writing checks for rent. Usually they all need help at once. This week, they all listened very well and it made the experience a little more bearable.
Next week will be their first experience with writing checks. They will have to pay their rent for the first time, and I fear some of them are going to be a little short of cash. I hope all goes well. In previous years, student who lost their seats learned quickly what to do to keep their chairs. Good luck to all of them next year when they pay their first rent.

Team Updates: Sept 14 – 18, 2009
Team 1 - We’ve been talking about fingerprints this week. They are all unique and individual like we are. We made people and animals out of our fingerprints.
Team 2 - The 4th graders from Team 2 attended the annual “Ohio Heritage School Day” at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin on Friday, September 18th. It was an exciting experience which helps the students understand the history of Seneca County and the state of Ohio with hands-on living history experiences. It supports and extends the fourth grade Ohio Social Studies Curriculum.
Team 3 – We started the year off working on a project involving paper airplanes and the scientific method. The kids had a lot of fun experimenting with different types and styles of airplanes to see which one would fly the farthest. Ryon, a newcomer to the team, had a plane that flew almost the entire width of the gymnasium. Nice work, Ryon! We have also begun working on our financial literacy program. Students completed their job applications late last week, and they are all anxious to go through the interviews this week. They are all asking about when they will get to start their jobs. We all hope they stay this excited about this project all year.
Team 4 – Mrs. Angles and the biology/ chemistry students will start working in the laboratory at Heidelberg University this week. Dr. Bob Murray will be volunteering his expertise as a retired professor, and instructing the students with Mrs. Angles. This opportunity is outstanding for BCA freshman and sophomores as they will attain experience preparing them for college level labs. This certainly encourages these students to attain their full potential and to get experience which will help direct their future.
Many students are preparing to take PSAT on October 14th. This opportunity prepares them for available opportunities as they look into their choice of colleges.
Team 5 -Stay tuned as the big excitement in Team 5 right now is preparing the Red Ribbon Week activities.
The date of Red Ribbon week and activities will be shared with administration for approval. As decisions are made information will be on the daily announcements, so all can prepare for this exciting week.
